Federal officials call on Senate to pass SAVE America Act.
A joint investigation earlier this year by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) uncovered voting in the state of New Jersey by noncitizens in U.S. federal elections, which violates federal law.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that four noncitizens have been charged with crimes related to illegally voting in federal elections and making false statements in their application for U.S. citizenship.
“These aliens illegally voted in American elections,” said Assistant Homeland Security Secretary Lauren Bis. “New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill confirmed thousands of non-citizens are registered to vote in New Jersey. We need the SAVE America Act to ensure only Americans elect American leaders.”
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin recently sent letters to the California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania secretaries of state, warning them that there are tens of thousands of non-citizens illegally registered to vote in their states.
